The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-‐Night Stand.
Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
Abby left Kansas to get away from Mick, her gambling father who blames his unlucky streak on her. At Eastern Abby and her friend America go out one night and watch an underground fight where she meets Travis. Travis is a womanizing pig until he meets Abby. She is the only one he wants and he’s willing to give up everything for her. Abby does all she can not to fall in love with Travis and fall back into the life she left in Kansas. Their love is too strong and they can’t get enough of each other. I will stop there because I do not want to spoil it.
This book is everything the title suggests. Travis and Abby’s relationship is a disaster. A Beautiful Disaster. Wonderfully written, this story will warm and break your heart at the same time. Jamie McGuire does a great job of describing each of their feelings, from the heartbreaking hurt and undeniable love in Travis’s eyes to the unquestionable desire and restraint in Abby’s.
There are many mixed reviews about this book, especially on GoodReads. Many say it isn’t good while others believe it is great. I am one of those that believe it is great. I have read Beautiful Disaster twice now. I read it first several years ago and forgot about it. I came across it again in my Kindle library and immediately decided to read it again. I loved it just as much, if not more this time around. It’s such a heartbreakingly beautiful love story between two disastrous people. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good love story.
Every story has two sides and Abby’s is just one side of this ultimate love story. Beautiful Disaster is the first of the Beautiful series by Jamie McGuire. Walking Disaster is book two of this series and Travis’s side of this beautiful story.
