Hey Guys! It’s time for Top 5 Tuesday! This week’s topic is about the reasons we love to read. There are so many different reasons why I love to read, so coming up with five really wasn’t that hard. I’m curious to see what other people’s reasons are for loving to read. Anyways! These are five of the reasons why I love to read:
Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Shanah @BionicBookWorm. Each week we respond to that week’s topic and link back to her page. Go check out her page to join in!
Reason 1 – Escapism
Reading for me is a form of escapism. It’s an escape from reality for a little while. I’m guessing that this reason will be on several other lists as well. Reading lets you pretend you are in another world, another time and place.
Reason 2 – TV Sucks
When all you do is watch reruns of The Big Bang Theory, CSI, and The Golden Girls, books are great. With books you get a new plotline every time, new characters (unless its a series of course), and you can choose when to read it or not to read it. Books are just better than TV. I don’t like really any of the new shows on TV. With books, I can imagine things how I want from the information the author gives me which is better than being stuck with the same crap over and over on TV. And if I have to watch one more episode of Friends, I may scream.
Reason 3 – Living through the Characters/Adventure
Sometimes when you’re reading a really good book, you can feel like your connected to the story in some way. Living through the characters can also be like an escape. If you’re going through a rough time and need an escape you can read and ‘live through the characters.’ I can honestly say that I think reading has helped me a lot since I got sick and I’m grateful for that.
Reason 4 – Relaxing
Reading can also be super relaxing. Especially if it’s quiet and you’ve got some coffee and you can escape into your own little world and forget about real life for a while. Or if it’s raining and it’s quiet inside. Rain is definitely reading weather, for sure.
Reason 5 – Entertainment Value/Perspective
Like I said before, TV isn’t that great nowadays (in my opinion). I just can’t find the entertainment value in watching a reality show where all they do is scream and cuss at each other. A book, on the other hand, is entertainment value in itself. Nowhere on a book does it say you have to read it a certain way. What I get from a book may be completely different than what you get from the same book. That’s what makes books so amazing.
