It is summertime in Beresford. Ronaldo and Rudi are beside themselves with excitement: Monty the Moose, the most incredible Magician in the whole world is performing at Rudi’s birthday party!
But before the festivities begin, there’s the important matter of The Reindeer Flyover, an ancient tradition of The Reindeer Flying Academy that marks the end of school term. But Rudi might not be able to fly. He’s injured his hoof and refuses to see Doctor Kloppen. Rudi is terrified of needles and, rumor has it, the Doctor’s needle is the size of a rocket!
Meanwhile, Ronaldo meets celebrity baker, Mrs. Sorensson, and offers to deliver her cakes to ‘Carrot’s ‘N’ Cakes’ bakery before flying school. The weather is hot so Ronaldo rushes through the forest so he can deliver the cakes before the icing melts. But trouble is lurking in the woods. Dasher and his menacing brothers, Comet and Prancer, are hiding in the bushes. Waiting for Ronaldo!
Ronaldo’s friend Rudi has a birthday coming up and he has saved all of his money to buy him the perfect gift. Ronaldo has also started helping Mrs. Sorensson by taking her cakes to the bakery for her because she has to rest so her hip will heal. One day while he delivering the cakes he runs into troublemaker Dasher and his brothers. They start picking on Ronaldo and one of the cakes gets destroyed. Ronaldo is so upset that he lies to Prancy who works at Mrs. Sorensson’s bakery telling her that Mrs. Sorensson is sick and that she didn’t make any cakes that day and gives Mrs. Sorensson two of his coins so she doesn’t find out. To his surprise, Mrs. Sorensson is not mad when she finds out what happened later and ends up giving Ronaldo double what she was originally going to pay him for delivering her cakes. Not only was Ronaldo able to buy his friend Rudi the perfect gift for his birthday he was also able to buy himself something!
This was yet again another cute and entertaining novel by Maxine Sylvester. It’s always a wonderful experience to read an easy, yet interesting book and I have not been disappointed yet with the Ronaldo books.
Ronaldo and Rudi’s friendship is a wonderful thing to witness. They are always there for each other and probably always will be. When Rudi had to go to the doctor to get his hoof checked out, Ronaldo was the only one who could get Rudi out of his room. The trust and kindness that they share is amazing.
When it came down to making sure Rudi had an amazing birthday party, Ronaldo was on it. He even got a famous reindeer to show up to Rudi’s party! Ronaldo was also very humble about everything. He didn’t tell Rudi or his parents that he invited Vixen Penderson to his party.
In the end, Ronaldo made sure Rudi had the best birthday, which did turn into quite the extravaganza.
Just like with Ronaldo: The Phantom Carrot Snatcher, I believe this is a wonderful book. It’s also a great beginners chapter book. I highly recommend it for pretty much anyone looking for an entertaining, quick and easy read.
Thank you again, Maxine Sylvester, for letting me read and review another one of your wonderful books.
