My Year in Books!!

Hey guys! Can you believe there is only a few days left before the year is over?! This year has been simultaneously slow and fast if that makes any sense. I’m ready for a new year and new books (of course), but first I wanted to talk about all the books I read this year!

I have read 56 books this year according to Goodreads, but I’ve actually read two more books that weren’t on Goodreads, so I’ll just add those in myself.

I have read roughly 13,962 pages this year not including what I’m currently reading.

Out of 58 books, 15 of them were physical books and the others were on my kindle.

My Year in Books

The Kite RunnerThis was the first book I read this year. I didn’t review it though and I don’t know why. I enjoyed reading this book and I do recommend it.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn HugoI really liked this book. A friend kept telling me to read it because it was one of her favorites and I’m glad that I did. I didn’t review this book either, I don’t know why I didn’t review it. It’s a really good book and you should go check it out.

ShutoutThis book was pretty good. It’s a quick read about a kid who is a really good hockey player, but someone is trying to get him in trouble but he can’t figure out who. You can check out my review here.

Tick Tock TerrorThis was another quick and easy read. It’s about a kid that gets himself into some trouble and has no choice but to follow through with what he’s gotten himself into. You can read my review here.

Stolen TimeThis book was really good and I’m so glad I requested it from Edelweiss. It’s about a young woman from the past that stows away on a man from the future’s ship and they end up having to go back in time to fix something only to come back and find something mind-blowing. As I said, this book was SO good. I’m still waiting for the sequel to come out. You can read my review here.

We Told Six LiesThis book had a crazy plot twist that I had no idea was coming, which is probably why I liked it so much. It’s definitely a thriller. It’s about this girl that goes missing and everyone thinks her boyfriend is the reason why. You should check out my review.

Voices of Powerful Women – This was just a fun read because I like learning about powerful women and their words of wisdom.

The Sisters HemingwayThis book was a good read. It’s about three sisters who were raised by their aunt after their mom and youngest sister died. When their aunt dies they come home after not seeing each other for several years for her funeral to find out the farmhouse is now theirs. It’s a good reunion story that I really enjoyed reading.

Five Feet ApartI really liked this book. It’s about two teenagers with CF who fall in love but can’t be within six feet of each other because they could cause each other to become very sick. It’s very emotional, but I enjoyed reading it and the movie was pretty good too.

The Perks of Being a WallflowerThis book is one of my all-time favorites. I will never fully be able to explain why it just is. I read it at least once a year and I’m even thinking about reading it backward (like Maddy from Everything, Everything). You should definitely read it.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanAs you all probably know by now, I am super late to the Harry Potter party. I have only read the first three books, but I plan on reading the rest of them soon! I do really like JK Rowling’s writing and I have enjoyed the books I have read.

MikeThis book was interesting because it’s about a guy named Floyd who has been playing tennis he could hold a tennis racket, but suddenly during one of his games this guy that only Floyd can see makes Floyd realize he doesn’t really want to play tennis anymore. It was a good book. You can check out my review here.

Women Who DaredThis is another book about strong women that I just enjoy learning about.

The Ultimate History of the 80s Teen MovieThis book was fun because I got to learn about some of the influences and things behind 80s teen movies.

Wicked SaintsThis book was SO good. I actually found a hard copy the last time I went to the used bookstore. This book is full of fighting, betrayal, a little bit of love. I can’t explain it. You should read my review here.

Girl, Stop ApologizingRachel Hollis is a really inspirational woman and her books are great. My mom and I listened to both this book and Girl, Wash Your Face as audiobooks in the car on the way to my doctor’s appointments and we both really liked them.

Talking as Fast as I CanGilmore Girls has always been one of my most favorite shows and I have loved other things Lauren Graham has been in, so when I got to a chance to learn more about her, you bet I read her memoir (twice). I learned a lot of stuff about her I never knew and I will probably read this book again sometime. Check out my review.

If You Ask MeI really enjoyed this memoir as well. Betty White is really funny and in this book, she talks about her time on Golden Girls and Hot in Cleveland. She also talks about roles she’s turned down because of beliefs she has and I really liked learning about her.

A Soul ReclaimedShayna Grissom is a new author and I was so excited that she asked me to read her first book for her. It was interesting and different. You can read my review here.

The League of Extraordinarily Funny WomenThis was a fun book to read because I got to learn about a lot of funny women actresses and comedians and their roots. You can read my review here.

Play it AgainThis was a cute book about two people who live in different countries who fall in love over their Youtube channels. You can read my review here.

Always SmileThis was about a young woman named Carly that gets throat cancer. She decides to fight and learns to sing again and other things. Check out my review.

With the Fire on High This was such a good book. It’s about a teen mom who is also trying to chase her dreams of becoming a chief. I loved this book so so much. You can check out my review here.

Keep this to Yourself  This book was crazy. I really liked it because I had no idea what was coming. If you like suspense I highly recommend this book.

Another Miserable Love SongThis was a good quick read by an author that I have enjoyed reading in the past. I highly recommend this book and other Brooke Carter books.

Milk and HoneyThis was a very powerful book of poems that I’m glad I decided to listen to as an audiobook because the author narrated it.

Simon vs the Homo sapiens AgendaI actually read this book after seeing the movie and surprise surprise, the book was better! The movies good too, but I just liked the book better.

Ordinary GirlsThis was a good book about two sisters who are completely different. I really liked this book. It’s supposed to be a modern Sense and Sensibility but I’ve never read it so I’m not sure how accurate that is. You can check out my review here.

Dissenter on the BenchThis book was really interesting because it’s about court cases that Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been a part of and about her life without being a crazy long book. I really enjoyed reading it. You can read my review here.

Beau and BettThis was a cute book about a boy who comes to do some work for another family to make up for something his mom did on accident and is faced with a stubborn girl named Bett. You can read my review here.

Kill CodeThis was a really good dystopian novel. It has a great plot twist. If you’re a fan of dystopian novels you should check it out. Read my review here.

The Colonel and the BeeThis was another cool book I was asked to review. It’s about an acrobat who ends up traveling in a hotter balloon with this colonel and meeting all these interesting people. You can check out my review here.

Ronaldo: The Phantom Carrot SnatcherI was asked to review this book and even though it’s a children/middle-grade book, I enjoyed reading it. It was a refreshing break from the books I had been reading. You can read my review here.

Ronaldo: Rudi’s Birthday ExtravaganzaI was asked to review this book by the same author as well. You can check out my review here.

The Pretty OneThis was a really good book about a girl with CP and her life with a healthy twin sister. The book also covers pop culture and its lack of disabled people and things like that.

The Kingmaker’s ContestThis book was really weird and interesting. You can check out my review here.

Never Sit if You Can DanceThis was a great, different kind of memoir. The author talks about some of the lessons she learned from her mother and how they have affected her life. Check out my review.

Where’d You Go, BernadetteThis book was really good. I didn’t like the movie as much, but the book was so good. It’s written differently than anything I’ve read before, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it.

The Art of Racing in the RainThis was such a great and emotional book. It’s told from a dog’s point of view, so it was definitely a little different, but it was still really good. Read my review here.

Killer Domes and the Chosen OneThis was another dystopian novel that was a little weird. I still really liked it though. You can check out my review here.

Daisy Jones & the SixI read this book as an audiobook and I honestly think that’s the best way to do it. It’s written kind of like an interview with the dialogue going back and forth.

Six Goodbyes We Never SaidThis was another emotional book about two kids who are both facing different things that make them really anxious who end up helping each other in the end. You can read my review here.

Cilka’s JourneyI have loved everything that I have read by Heather Morris so far. This book was really great and inspirational. It’s the true story of Cilka’s life after Auschwitz was liberated and she was sent to a Siberian prison. Read my review here.

Saving ZoëThis book reminded me a lot of Love Letters to the Dead but not exactly. Zoe’s sister was murdered and her boyfriend gives Zoe her diary and she learns a lot of new things about her sister. You can check out my review here.

Looking for AlaskaI reread this book because of the mini-series they did on Hulu based on this book. I forgot how good this book was and the mini-series was pretty good too.

Shadow and BoneI’m a little late to the Grisha Universe party, but I really liked this book and I plan on trying to read the rest of this trilogy before the show comes on Netflix.

Staying Fat for Sarah ByrnesThis was another reread. I had to read this book in high school and I think I was like the only person who liked it, so when I saw it at my favorite used bookstore I picked up a copy. I realized I’d been pronouncing the title wrong for a long time. You can read my review here.

CarrieThis was my first Stephen King novel and it was a little difficult to understand at first for me, but once I got into it I ended up liking it.

Sick Kids in LoveThis book was recommended to me by my friend Sam and I’m so glad she told me to check it out. I really loved how relatable this book was and it will definitely be a reread in the future. Check out my review.

33 Percent RockstarThis was a cool and interesting music memoir about a guy who tried his hardest to become a rockstar by playing the bass in multiple bands. Check out my review.

Happy HourThis book isn’t my normal, but I have a hard time saying no when I’m asked to review a book for someone. You can check out my review here.

The Spirits of Six Minstrel RunThis book was super weird with some crazy plot twists. Check out my review here.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the GalaxyI needed a book set in space for my Popsugar Reading Challenge and I had actually been wanting to read this book, so it was a perfect choice. It was definitely a little weird and hard to understand sometimes, but I enjoyed reading it.

We are OkayAnother reread, but I needed a book set on a college campus for my Popsugar Reading Challenge and it’s a good read. You can check out my review here.

Number the StarsThis was a short book taking place in Copenhagen when the Nazis were invading. Also another book I needed for my Popsugar Challenge.

BMX ChallengeYes this is a middle-grade book, but I really needed a short book for my Popsugar Challenge.

If I StayAgain, reread. I needed a short book for my Popsugar Challenge. It doesn’t hurt that I also really liked this book as well.

Mastering Your BrainThis was a good interesting self-help book about abandoning negative thoughts and bad habits. Check out my review.

Happy Holidays!

Part of me would enjoy making a post like this but the other part of me knows it would take way too much time. Currently I’m at 90 something books read for the year and that would be a very long post
