Hey guys! This week’s book is Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. This was a really good book and if you haven’t read it I highly recommend it. I wasn’t a huge fan of the movie, but it wasn’t bad. There were a lot of good quotes I wanted to share with you guys, so you go:

“Everything is a risk. Not doing anything is a risk.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

I liked this quote because it’s so true. There’s always a risk in doing something, but there’s also a risk in not doing something.

“Maybe growing up means disappointing the people we love.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

As we grow up, we change a little and sometimes that disappoints the people we love.

“Spoiler Alert: love is worth everything. Everything.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

Everything, Everything.

“Just because you can’t experience everything doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experience anything.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

There are lots of different things that can hold a person back; fear, disability, etc. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experience anything.

“I was happy before I met him. But I’m alive now, and those are not the same thing.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

Maddy had not really gotten to talk to anyone besides her mom for a very long time and she was happy with that, but once she met Olly, it was a different type of happiness.

“Prom-ise (prämes) n. pl. – es. l. The lie you want to keep. [2015. Whitter.]”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

I liked this because throughout the book there are a couple of these. Maddy would call them part of her dictionary.

“Sometimes I reread my favorite books from back to front. I start with the last chapter and read backward until I get to the beginning. When you read this way, characters go from hope to despair, from self-knowledge to doubt. In love stories, couples start out as lovers and end up as strangers. Coming of age books become stories of losing your way. Your favorite characters come back to life.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

I had never thought about doing this before reading this book, but it’s actually a really cool idea. Ironically, this book would be a good book to read backward.

“Sometimes you do things for the right reasons and sometimes for the wrong ones and sometimes it’s impossible to tell the difference.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what’s right or wrong and I can understand. I’m sure most people can as well.

“It’s a hard concept to hold on to — the idea that there was a time before us. A time before time. In the beginning, there was nothing. And then there was everything.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

I mean it really is.

“I’ve read more books than you. It doesn’t matter how many you’ve read. I’ve read more. Believe me.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

I thought this was really funny.

“I was trying so hard to find the single pivotal moment that set my life on its path. The moment that answered the question, ‘How did I get here?”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

Aren’t we all sometimes?

“I decided that love is a terrible, terrible thing. Loving someone as fiercely as my mom loves me must be like wearing your heart outside of your body with no skin, no bones, no nothing to protect it.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

I thought this was a brilliant quote.

“Here is my secret. It’s quite simple: One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

Beautiful.

“My heart is too bruised and I want to keep the pain as a reminder.I don’t want sunlight in it. I don’t want it to heal. Because if it does, I might be tempted to use it again.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

Anyone who has gone through heartache has felt this I’m sure.

“If my life were a book and you read it backward, nothing would change. Today is the same as yesterday. Tomorrow will be the same as today. In the book of Maddy, all the chapters are the same. Until Olly.”

Everything, Everything, Nicola Yoon

I just really liked this quote because it does a great job of summing up the book.
