Book Quotes | Every Day by David Levithan

This week’s book is Every Day by David Levithan. For those of you who haven’t read it or know what it’s about, it’s about a person named A who wakes up in a new body every day (hints the title) and ends up falling in love with a girlfriend of one of the bodies they inhabit. I really liked this book (the movie wasn’t that great). There’s actually a sequel from the girl’s point of view, but I haven’t read it yet. There were several quotes I liked from this book and I hope you like them as well!

“If you stare at the center of the universe, there is a coldness there. A blankness, ultimately, the universe doesn’t care about us. That’s why we have to care about each other.”

Every Day, David Levithan

I liked this quote because it’s true. Just because you exist doesn’t mean the world cares about you or that the world revolves around you. We have to care about each other because if we don’t, who will?

“I am not kissing  her because I want to, and I am not kissing her because I need to — I am kissing her for a reason that transcends want and need, that feels elemental to our existence, a molecular component on which our universe will be built.”

Every Day, David Levithan

I think we all want to have someone feel this way about us. Someone who feels like kissing you means everything.

“It’s one thing to fall in love. It’s another to feel someone else fall in love with you, and feel a responsibility toward that love.”

Every Day, David Levithan

It’s not just enough to fall in love, but if someone else loves you in the same way, you are ultimately responsible for that love.

“You like him because he’s a lost boy. Believe me, I’ve seen it happen before. But do you know what happens to girls who love lost boys? They become lost themselves, without fail.”

Every Day, David Levithan

This quote is sad but unfortunately true. It’s what most of us have been taught since we were little: you become what you’re around or at least influenced.

“People are rarely as attractive in reality as they are in the eyes of the people who are in love with them. Which is, I suppose, as it should be.”

Every Day, David Levithan

When you truly love someone you see them differently than anyone else and that’s the way it should be.

“I am always concerned by people who know something is wrong but still insist on ignoring it as if that will somehow make it go away. They spare themselves the confrontation, but end up boiling in resentment anyway.”

Every Day, David Levithan

Even if you absolutely hate confrontation, if you see someone hurting, doing something they shouldn’t be, etc. HELP. Because if something bad happens in the end, you’re just going to blame yourself.

”Sometimes when you hit send, you can imagine the message going straight into the person’s heart. But other times, like this time, it feels like the words are merely falling into a well.”

Every Day, David Levithan

Sometimes when you’re talking with someone and you send them a message, you feel like it doesn’t mean anything and I think this is what the author was trying to portray.
